About AWGA

History

AWGA (Inter-Club) was organized in 1922 for the purpose of promoting an interest in golf and inter-club competition among the women of the Association’s member-owned clubs. The charter member clubs were Ansley Golf Club, Atlanta Athletic Club, Capital City Club and Druid Hills Golf Club. Additional member clubs are Atlanta Country Club (1966), Cherokee Town and Country Club (1960), Dunwoody Country Club (1969), Marietta Country Club (1992) and The Standard Club (1961). Lakeside Country Club (1961) and Country Club of the South (2006), were members until they were no longer member-owned. AWGA (Inter-Club) was the forerunner of inter-club associations in the state of Georgia and has served as a model for many area and regional inter-club organizations.

Members

Membership is open to all females holding active golfing memberships in the Ladies Golf Associations of an AWGA (Inter-Club) member club and having a USGA handicap index of 22.0 or less. The average AWGA (Inter-Club) index is approximately half the national women's average. Appropriate golf attire is required. Members are encouraged to support the host club's pro shop and dining facilities on play days.

Play

Regular golf competitions are held mostly on Tuesdays or Wednesdays at member clubs beginning late March and ending in early November. Major tournaments include a net best ball partnership tournament played in the spring and a 54-hole stroke play championship tournament played consecutively on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the fall. A Mr. and Mrs., Pro-Lady, and AWGA (Inter-Club) Appreciation Tournament are also included on the schedule. AWGA (Inter-Club) members adhere strictly to current USGA Rules and Regulations and find that the challenge of a variety of courses and organized competition improves their golfing ability.

Dues

Individual membership dues are set by the Board and currently are $90.00 per year. Greens fees will be charged at a discounted rate of 50% of the accompanied guest fees for AWGA members that do not belong to the Member Club hosting the event.    In addition, cart fees and Luncheon fees (if it is a shotgun start) are charged to each player as well.  Members have reciprocal signing privileges at all the clubs during AWGA events.

Board

AWGA (Inter-Club) is governed by a member-elected Board of Directors, representing all of the clubs. There are also two club representatives from each member club. The club representatives are active members of their clubs Ladies Golf Association. The club representatives monitor all AWGA (Inter-Club) events at their respective clubs.
